Why Aren't We Talking More About Colostrum?

When I initially started out this blog, it was in an effort to spread the good news that dietary fat wasn't so bad for us after all. In fact, it carried a plethora of health benefits that we've been missing out on for decades due to the low fat trend. While that continues to be my main focus on this blog, the incredibly effective gut healing benefits I experienced from a certain supplement, has stolen the spot light. To date, it has been the most popular topic on my humble little blog and I continue to receive a great deal of e-mails every week from readers all around the country and world. It's absolutely unreal (and unfortunate) how many of us suffer from some GI ailment or another and who have just about given up hope on finding relief from these health issues.... until now.

Enter colostrum....

:::cue the trumpets:::

What is it?

In my opinion, it's the supplement that almost everyone should be taking (to heal their gut) and nobody is talking about.

{Get all the nitty gritty details on the blog post Colostrum 101}

Why?

I haven't a clue.

the backstory

When I first started researching about this product, I found nothing. Absolutely nothing on the topic in relation to leaky gut. Therefore I (foolishly) dismissed the idea of it. It wasn't until my Sheriff friend (who I introduce in my other posts about colostrum here and here) literally nagged me to give it a shot anyhow.

About one month later I started to slack off on taking it regularly and I had a flare up from something I ate {Check out what I mean by a "flare up" in photos found here}. It wasn't until that moment that I realized I had gone nearly a month without any issues, which was the longest I had ever gone at that point. Before that, I would have had a flare up before I was even done healing from the last one. It was then that I realized what I had stumbled upon.

So I went back to Dr. Google and was determined to find something, anything, that confirmed what I felt like I had just discovered. There still wasn't much, but what I did find I shared about in my previous blog posts, and included it here as well.

In the past year, I've noticed a slight influx of information about colostrum, leaky gut and associated disease as a result of leaky gut. In fact, if you happen to Google Colostrum + Leaky Gut a  certain somebody's (ME! :) blog pops up twice on page 2. Thank you in advance for trying that out ;-)

What studies are showing

Okay, so what exactly can colostrum do for the body?

Let's take a look at a couple of quotes from articles listed in the references below:

"Colostrum has been proven in both animal and human trials to prevent and heal leaky gut syndrome, and it's the only substance conclusively proven to provide this kind of result. Food elimination and herbal products can't do the job because they don't contain the antibodies, immunoglobulins, and growth factors necessary to heal the gut lining and provide the nutrition and hormones for cell repair, growth, and differentiation."

"Colostrum may potentially slow or stop the progression of the autoimmune disease, by healing injury in the gastrointestinal tract and eliminating the leaky gut connection to the disease. Scientific research and clinical studies show evidence of the powerful immune and growth components in colostrum which can regulate the overactive immune response as well as heal tissue damage caused by autoimmune disease."

"Studies are now showing significant gains in fitness with colostrum supplementation. A widely reported study in Australia found a 20% increase in strength, stamina, and shortened recovery time for both soccer players and cyclists. Many body builders and fitness experts say colostrum works better than any other legal substance they ever experienced.....

The growth factors in colostrum stimulate protein synthesis and slow protein breakdown, resulting in increased lean muscle mass. At the same time, they shift the metabolism from burning carbohydrates to burning more fats.....

Overall, colostrum is considered as powerful as steroids at generating increased muscle mass when used in conjunction with exercise, but without the risks and side effects."

health benefits of colostrum

Here's a quick list of just some of the ailments colostrum can help manage or even cure:

  • Leaky Gut/Permeable Gut Syndrome
  • Candida Overgrowth
  • Autoimmune Disease
  • Anti-Aging
  • Tissue Repair
  • Food Intolerances
  • Allergies
  • Anti-Viral
  • Anti-Microbial
  • Anti-Fungal
  • Digestion
  • Inflammation
  • Depression
  • Elimination
  • Skin Elasticity
  • Stamina, Strength and Sports Performance
  • Muscle Building and Repair
  • Immunity
  • Bone Density
  • Cancer
  • Eczema
  • IBS
  • You name it, it will help it!

This list goes on and that's the reason why I jokingly call colostrum the Windex of health supplements.

If you get the joke, you truly get me.

Remember what that wise old man, Hippocrates, once said--

"All disease begins in the gut."

He said that nearly 2,000 years ago.

How much longer do we want to suffer before we truly appreciate how true that is???

Where to find high quality colostrum

So which brand do I use?

Glad you asked.

There are a couple of acceptable ones on the market, but the one I use is the Surthrival Colostrum found here. I do make a small commission if you purchase through my Amazon link but I am not paid for by the company to promote their product. For criteria stated in my blog post, Colostrum 101, I simply choose their product over all others at this time and can whole heartedly recommend them.

Lets talk more about colostrum

So there you have it. Another article related to the gut healing benefits of colostrum. But it's not enough. I want to make more noise in the health and wellness community. But I can't do it on my own. I need your help. Share this information. Pin it. Tweet it. Repost on Instagram and share on Facebook. I don't even need credit for it. I just want others to find the solution that I did and find some hope when all else seems lost. It's a very dark place to be in when you're sick and nobody has answers. Help me shed some light on that for others.

--Thank you.
